Outgoing U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) who is planning on exiting politics in 2025 spoke to Norah O’Donnell on CBS News’ Person to Person. As Donald Trump continues to dominate the Republican primary for the 2024 presidential race, and even some polls against Democrat Joe Biden, hopeful anti-Trump Republicans still want to see another person win.
Although unlikely, folks like Mitt Romney are still keeping their dreams on live support. A clip of Romney speaking to O’Donnell is making its rounds on X.
O’Donnell: “Who DO you like in the Republican field?”
Romney: “Uh, anybody, I’d be happy to support virtually any one of the Republicans, maybe not Vivek, but the others that are running would be acceptable to me. I’d be happy to vote for a number of the Democrats too. It would be an upgrade in my opinion from Donald Trump and perhaps Joe Biden. Look, I like President Biden. I find him a very charming, engaging person. There’s some places I agree with him but most places I disagree with him. I think he’s made all kinds of mistakes but I would like to see someone else run.”

Romney has been anti-Trump for personal reasons for a long time. He’s bitter that he couldn’t beat Barack Obama when he ran for president.
He’s bitter that Trump didn’t do more with him when he was president. Romney has also shown his hand however, to prove that it’s not all personal and that he’s against nationalism and populism which has been on the rise on the right and around the world in recent years.
This is shown by the fact that he’s also not in favor of someone like Vivek Ramaswamy because he is more anti-war than other Republicans running against Donald Trump. It’ll be interesting to see what Romney does next politically speaking.
