Christopher Wray Likely to be Held in Contempt by GOP For Withholding Biden Docs

Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-KY) announced on Twitter that the FBI had failed to provide unclassified documents that the Committee subpoenaed in relation to Biden family business dealings abroad.

Comer added in his tweet, “The Committee will now be taking steps to hold FBI Director Wray in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a lawful subpoena.”

He also shared his statement on the FBI’s refusal to comply.

“Today, the FBI informed the Committee that it will not provide the unclassified documents subpoenaed by the Committee. The FBI’s decision to stiff-arm Congress and hide this information from the American people is obstructionist and unacceptable. While I have a call scheduled with FBI Director Wray tomorrow to discuss his response further, the Committee has been clear in its intent to protect Congressional oversight authorities and will now be taking steps to hold the FBI Director in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a lawful subpoena. Americans deserve the truth, and the Oversight Committee will continue to demand transparency from this nation’s chief law enforcement agency.”

Comer later went on “Hannity” to discuss the missed deadline. Hannity asked if he still planned to hold Wray in contempt even though a call had been set up to take place between Comer and the FBI director. Comer shared that Wray hasn’t even admitted to having a document, he added that “we don’t have confidence in Director Wray. We are already in the process of drafting legislation to hold an Oversight Committee markup next week to hold FBI Director Wray in contempt of Congress.”

Hannity explained that Comer has had a credible witness come forward with an allegation that Biden while vice president took certain actions in exchange for payments to his family members. The Oversight Committee has subpoenaed the FBI for the document related to the claim.

Comer stated that the FBI has had the requested document for four years and that he is unaware if it was ever investigated. He explained that this is one of his fears. and cited the IRS whistleblower who stated they were told to stand down when it came to the Biden family.

Benny Johnson shared the clip from Hanity on Twitter:

“BREAKING: James Comer officially sets date to criminally charge FBI Director Wray over cover-up of Biden Family crimes: “It’s going to look very similar to what Democrats did with Steve Bannon.”

Comer shared on Twitter earlier today that he plans on getting answers and that he has a call scheduled for today to talk with FBI Director Wray.

“I have a call with FBI Director Wray today to discuss the FBI’s refusal to comply with my subpoena for unclassified records alleging a criminal scheme involving then-VP Biden. @GOPoversight will get answers. Transparency brings accountability.”

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy has shared he will support the Comer in holding Wray in contempt for failing to provide the document.

McCarthy told Fox News, “If he misses the deadline today, I am prepared to move contempt charges in Congress against him,” McCarthy said. “We have jurisdiction over this. He can send us that document.”

“We have the right to look at that, Republicans and Democrats alike in that committee. And if he does not follow through with the law, we will move contempt charges against Christopher Wray and the FBI.”
