Driver Crashes Into White House Ellipse Entrance, Suspect in Custody

According to authorities, a vehicle smashed into an external White House fence on Monday and was taken into custody.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the crash occurred at 6 p.m.
“We are investigating the cause & manner of the collision,” Guglielmi stated in an X post.

The car, described as a gray SUV, is currently being examined by law enforcement and has been cleared by investigators, according to Guglielmi in a subsequent statement.

President Biden was not at the White House during the incident.

Traffic might be hampered near the junction of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, which runs along the Eastern side of the White House complex, Guglielmi said after the incident.

A month ago, a motorist crashed into President Biden’s motorcade when he was attending a fundraiser in Wilmington, Delaware. At the time of the incident, Biden was fleeing the event and was hustled into an awaiting car.

Investigators decided that the Delaware collision was not connected to a danger to the president’s life, and the driver was charged with drunk driving-related felonies as a result.

In recent years, the White House fence has undergone a lot of security enhancements and has grown in height. In 2021, the National Park Service constructed a 13-foot barrier with wider poles to discourage people from going over it.
